Here i am going to the secret that i got to know last night while making format. I found that we can bypass the 39 minute of time while we are installing windows xp.

We all know that after loading the file or copying the file from the boot disk to temporary space the system requires a first time reboot.

Now if we press shift+f10 then the task manager will open and there we will find that a process is running named setup.exe

now our task is to make the priority of this process maxm by right clicking on that.

ZoNG Free GPRS Hack : No More

It has been reported that the Zong Free GPRS hack has been completely blocked now. This hack was very famous among Pakistani youth; many well-known forums have made image guided and video lessons to teach you how to activate this hack. The duration of the hack was more than 1 year.

What was the hack?

The hack was very simple. You just had to do some changes in Access Point (APN Settings) to make them use zong mms settings. This way you were not charged and you could use Zong’s Edge/Gprs free of cost, even when you had credit in your account. Because the system does not recognize your status.

The first hack was that you change the apn from zongwap to zongmms. This hack was blocked shortly after it came to public forums.
The second hack was to change the apn to zongmms but also giving two blank lines above.

What you got? What you lost?

The people using this hack were 99.9% prepaid users, so no matter for what duration and what volumes they have used they are not going to pay for it.

The hack was blocked about 2 days ago, so those people who did not noticed it lost their balance in their accounts. As Zong started charging them as per regular tariff.

Why these hacks do came out?

There is a common perception that evil geniuses who always try to find backdoors and flaws in systems find these hacks, on the other hand, some people think that the companies themselves spread these hacks; the next question may be why they do this. The answer can be that as you know GPRS/Edge culture is still not popular in Pakistan, because of costs and lack of knowledge. Therefore, when one finds it free, obviously, he/she is going to use it, then they tell it to their friends, creating awareness for the service.

Moreover, this also helps in testing network load, strengths, and weakness of the system when there is network congestion.

On this page, select Subscription Type as following

Select Prepay if you are prepaid customer
Select Postpay if you are postpaid customer

Next select you phone from list, for example nokia

Next select your model, for example E 51 (Nokia)

Next Select Setting Type

Select “Wap + MMS + Internet”

Almost daily, I get multiple emails from readers asking me to teach them on how to activate GPRS on their Mobile Phones and demands setting for their different models and cellular companies.

In response, I have decided to do a series of tutorials in which we will learn easy and simple ways to get GRPS activated on our mobile phones. To reduce the confusion I will start with Ufone, however, GPRS settings for all cellular companies, like Mobilink, Zong, Warid and Tenor will also be posted in coming days.

Step 1: Activating GPRS on your Ufone

You must activate GPRS for your Ufone number. In case you do all settings, and GPRS for your Ufone number is not activated then you may not use GPRS on your Ufone. In order to activate your GPRS services on Ufone number you can follow two ways

By Calling Help Line: Call help line and ask them to activate your GPRS and MMS…As simple, along with also tell them your Mobile Phone brand and model (for example, tell them that you have Nokia 6300 phone) and that’s it. They will activate your GPRS setting and also send you an SMS that will contain GPRS/MMS setting. Simply save this message. (When you will open this message, there will appear an option to save it) – So you are done. Now you can use GPRS and MMS on your Ufone number.

Note: After you call help line, and activate your GPRS, it may take couple of hours to get it activated on your number. So don’t expect GPRS working straight away.

Activating Via SMS: You can also activate GPRS on Ufone by sending an SMS in this format => [manufacturermodel] and send it to 222

Example: Write: Nokia 6300 and send it to 222

After sending this SMS, you will have to wait for sometime (even 24 hours in some cases) and you will receive a SMS that will GPRS and MMS setting for your Ufone number. Simply save it and start using GPRS on you Ufone.

Note: It is better to subscribe by calling help line, as they will send you MMS and GPRS setting immediately. Subscribing GPRS via SMS may take as long as 24 hours.

So now you are done with GPRS and MMS setting, and can start surging internet on your Ufone number. Also check following tips for using internet on ufone.

Pricing

Remember that GPRS is relatively an expensive internet source. Ufone currently does not offer any unlimited data plan (package that allows unlimited usage). Hence, you will be charged on per MB download/upload basis.

GPRS usage Charges: Rs. 15 per MB (excluding taxes)
MMS Usage Charges: The cost of sending an MMS is Rs. 5.00 (excluding taxes)
The cost of receiving an MMS is Rs. 5.00 (excluding taxes)

Manual GPRS and MMS Setting for Ufone

You are supposed to be done with GPRS and MMS setting with above given method. But if you an advanced user and you want to manually configure your GPRS setting then check following configuration

Setup a new connection:

Options>Advanced setings> Set ur phone ip address? Automatic
Now Goto Connection settings Again>Packet Data> Accesspoint> ufone.piinternet

MMS Setting

In connection settings!
Setup a new connection:
Like above you have to create a new connection. say you called the connection “UfoneMMS”
Connection Name: Ufone.mms
AccessPoint: ufone.plmms
Everything else: default

You will get the GPRS setting through an SMS
Save this SMS – Until now, your GPRS is activated and you can use GPRS, but it won’t be free. You will be billed as PKR 15 per 1 MB download
Now the trick starts
Go to tools> settings> connections> Ufone GPRS> Edit Ufone GPRS and write APN(Access Point Name) ufone.pmms – Previously it would be ufone.pwap
You are ready and can start using FREE GPRS
To use messengers go to Tools> Setting> Connection> Ufone GPRS> Options> Advance Setting and Change DNS

This hack works perfectly fine, so start enjoying the FREE GRPS Internet. If you are a postpaid user, better give a try on prepaid number before start using it on your postpaid number.

If you get server timeout message, don’t worry; that just a temporary down time, in such a case wait for couple of hours and your free internet will be available again.

Open a new Microsoft Excel document,
Click the Tools menu, Marco, Visual Basic Editor. You can also press the ALT+ F11 hotkey to bring up the VBA editor,
While in MS Visual Basic editor, click the View Code icon on the upper-left panel,
Copy the VBA program source code at below here and paste it onto the VBA source code editor,
Press F5 to execute the VBA source code,
An Open File dialog box prompts you to select the Office Excel document that embed the SWF Flash animation file,
A message box appears shortly after the Excel file is selected, with a message that says where the extracted SWF Flash animation file is saved in local hard disk!

1. Find and right-click the Windows Command Prompt in your Start Menu and choose to run it as an Administrator.
2. At the prompt, enter diskpart to launch Microsoft’s disk management utility. The command line should now read “DISKPART>”.
3. Type list disk to show a list of all disk drives. If your USB key is plugged into your PC, it should be listed here, along with other physical drives. Note the USB key’s disk number – you can pick it out by looking at the disk capacity.
4. Type select disk #, with the USB key’s disk number in place of #.
5. Type clean for the utility to clean the disk, which DiskPart will confirm.
6. Create a new bootable partition by entering create partition primary.

8. Format the key by inputting format fs=fat32. This should take a few minutes, and DiskPart will display a progress percentage.

If you want support from Microsoft without having to give them you private data (name, email, phone, ...), you can use the following registry hack to fool XP into thinking that XP has been registered. This is essentially the same hack used in Win98 to block registration. Don't be confused - this is not blocking Product Activation. This will only work if you have not installed XP. If you have installed XP and there is internet connectivity, you already are registered.

* Your PC must not be connected to the network.
* During XP setup answer no when setup asks you to use Windows Dynamic Update.
Dynamic update connects to Microsoft to register XP.
* Once the installation is completed, reboot to Safe mode.
* Click Start
* Click Run
* Rename %systemroot%\System32\regwizc.dll and %systemroot%\System32\Dllcach\regwizc.dll to regwizc.dll.bka or whatever.

CONFIGURING THE WIFI

1. Go again to Control Panel -> network connections.

6. Enter a name of your wish to the network name.

Below is the answer of what CAM/TS/TC/SCR means so I hope anyone who askes me can read and understand by themselves. (I don't know why you can use internet to spend your time to search and download such a big file but don't have enough time to look for the meaning by yourself.)

Downloaded a movie and don't know what CAM/TS/TC/SCR means?

CAM - A cam is a theater rip usually done with a digital video camera. A mini tripod is sometimes used, but a lot of the time this wont be possible, so the camera make shake. Also seating placement isn't always idle, and it might be filmed from an angle. If cropped properly, this is hard to tell unless there's text on the screen, but a lot of times these are left with triangular borders on the top and bottom of the screen. Sound is taken from the onboard microphone of the camera, and especially in comedies, laughter can often be heard during the film. Due to these factors picture and sound quality are usually quite poor, but sometimes we're lucky, and the theater will be' fairly empty and a fairly clear signal will be heard.

TELESYNC (TS) - A telesync is the same spec as a CAM except it uses an external audio source (most likely an audio jack in the chair for hard of hearing people). A direct audio source does not ensure a good quality audio source, as a lot of background noise can interfere. A lot of the times a telesync is filmed in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, giving a better picture quality. Quality ranges drastically, check the sample before downloading the full release. A high percentage of Telesyncs are CAMs that have been mislabeled.

TELECINE (TC) - A telecine machine copies the film digitally from the reels. Sound and picture should be very good, but due to the equipment involved and cost telecines are fairly uncommon. Generally the film will be in correct aspect ratio, although 4:3 telecines have existed. A great example is the JURASSIC PARK 3 TC done last year. TC should not be confused with TimeCode , which is a visible counter on screen throughout the film.

SCREENER (SCR) - A pre VHS tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a VHS tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (full screen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a "ticker" (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occurred, some looking better than others.

DVD-SCREENER (DVDscr) - Same premise as a screener, but transferred off a DVD. Usually letterbox , but without the extras that a DVD retail would contain. The ticker is not usually in the black bars, and will disrupt the viewing. If the ripper has any skill, a DVDscr should be very good. Usually transferred to SVCD or DivX/XviD.

DVDRip - A copy of the final released DVD. If possible this is released PRE retail (for example, Star Wars episode 2) again, should be excellent quality. DVDrips are released in SVCD and DivX/XviD.

VHSRip - Transferred off a retail VHS, mainly skating/sports videos and XXX releases.

TVRip - TV episode that is either from Network (capped using digital cable/satellite boxes are preferable) or PRE-AIR from satellite feeds sending the program around to networks a few days earlier (do not contain "dogs" but sometimes have flickers etc) Some programs such as WWF Raw Is War contain extra parts, and the "dark matches" and camera/commentary tests are included on the rips. PDTV is capped from a digital TV PCI card, generally giving the best results, and groups tend to release in SVCD for these. VCD/SVCD/DivX/XviD rips are all supported by the TV scene.

WORKPRINT (WP) - A workprint is a copy of the film that has not been finished. It can be missing scenes, music, and quality can range from excellent to very poor. Some WPs are very different from the final print (Men In Black is missing all the aliens, and has actors in their places) and others can contain extra scenes (Jay and Silent Bob) . WPs can be nice additions to the collection once a good quality final has been obtained.

DivX Re-Enc - A DivX re-enc is a film that has been taken from its original VCD source, and re-encoded into a small DivX file. Most commonly found on file sharers, these are usually labeled something like Film.Name.Group(1of2) etc. Common groups are SMR and TND. These aren't really worth downloading, unless you're that unsure about a film u only want a 200mb copy of it. Generally avoid.

Watermarks - A lot of films come from Asian Silvers/PDVD (see below) and these are tagged by the people responsible. Usually with a letter/initials or a little logo, generally in one of the corners. Most famous are the "Z" "A" and "Globe" watermarks.

Asian Silvers / PDVD - These are films put out by eastern bootleggers, and these are usually bought by some groups to put out as their own. Silvers are very cheap and easily available in a lot of countries, and its easy to put out a release, which is why there are so many in the scene at the moment, mainly from smaller groups who don't last more than a few releases. PDVDs are the same thing pressed onto a DVD. They have removable subtitles, and the quality is usually better than the silvers. These are ripped like a normal DVD, but usually released as VCD.

Scene Tags...

PROPER - Due to scene rules, whoever releases the first Telesync has won that race (for example). But if the quality of that release is fairly poor, if another group has another telesync (or the same source in higher quality) then the tag PROPER is added to the folder to avoid being duped. PROPER is the most subjective tag in the scene, and a lot of people will generally argue whether the PROPER is better than the original release. A lot of groups release PROPERS just out of desperation due to losing the race. A reason for the PROPER should always be included in the NFO.

LIMITED - A limited movie means it has had a limited theater run, generally opening in less than 250 theaters, generally smaller films (such as art house films) are released as limited.

INTERNAL - An internal release is done for several reasons. Classic DVD groups do a lot of INTERNAL releases, as they wont be dupe'd on it. Also lower quality theater rips are done INTERNAL so not to lower the reputation of the group, or due to the amount of rips done already. An INTERNAL release is available as normal on the groups affiliate sites, but they can't be traded to other sites without request from the site ops. Some INTERNAL releases still trickle down to IRC/Newsgroups, it usually depends on the title and the popularity. Earlier in the year people referred to Centropy going "internal". This meant the group were only releasing the movies to their members and site ops. This is in a different context to the usual definition.

STV - Straight To Video. Was never released in theaters, and therefore a lot of sites do not allow these.

ASPECT RATIO TAGS - These are *WS* for widescreen (letterbox) and *FS* for Fullscreen.

REPACK - If a group releases a bad rip, they will release a Repack which will fix the problems.

NUKED - A film can be nuked for various reasons. Individual sites will nuke for breaking their rules (such as "No Telesyncs") but if the film has something extremely wrong with it (no soundtrack for 20mins, CD2 is incorrect film/game etc) then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits. Nuked films can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but its a good idea to check why it was nuked first in case. If a group realise there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.

reg a dydns account and install the ip pointer, so each time you ping the host name you regestored

for example:
you regestor the host name myhost.dydns.com, then you keep a little software running on the target host. The little software will keep update your IP to dydns.com server.

so at your pc just start cmd, and ping myhost.dydns.com, it will give you the most updated ip address.

Method 3
neverender, what doesn't work for you? Simply type in nc -vvv -l -p 80 on your box, which will set it to listen in verbose mode on port 80. Then give them a link to your IP address (for example: 111.111.111.11) and tell them to type it in their browser. The browser should resolve the address as well as append port 80 automatically. Just make sure that your friend is not very computer literate.

Method 4
Just download a very simple server such as this one and install it on your comp. Then run it and give your ip to the person you want and tell them to connect to it through a browser. Your server will log their connection and you will get their IP.

Welcome to my Reverse Coding tutorial! In this paper, you will
learn how to crack and modify your own software. I'll try to get
into as much detail as possible, yet also dumb it down a bit. =)

---Hexadecimal----------

To begin, I'm going to teach you about hexadecimal, so if you already
know it, then move on. Even if you do already know it, I suggest
sticking around for a refreshment of your memory.=)

Hexadecimal, or hex as it's more commonly known, is a base 16
numbering system. Base 16 meaning that it consists of 16 numbers:
0-9 and A-F. Each of these numbers (A-F=10-16) have a value of 4 bits
and are also called nibbles. In representing a hexadecimal number, one
would write an "0x" before the actual bit set. 0x is simply a tag put
before a hex number to let programmers know that it is in fact, hex.
When writing hex, you will not need to use this prefix.

If you haven't already noticed, the 0x prefix looks similar to that of exponential
notation. Actually this is where 0x has been derived, seeing as how
hex is simply a number that has been raised to a power of 16.
This means 10 in hexadecimal represents the value 16+0, or 16. So check
out this example:

0xB3 (hex)= 2*16(squared)+11*16(to the 1st power)+3*16(to the power of 0 )
=2*256+11*16+3=691 (decimal)

Yeah, you could do all of that, or you could be lazy and use an automated
program that does it all for you. Why do you need to know hex? Because
it's used by every piece of software and hardware. How? Memory based address
allocation. Here's an example:

When you clicked on your browsers icon to launch it, the click triggered a "call"
(an asm function that will be discussed more in depth in later chapters.) which
went back to the programs memory with the "click in it's hand." It finds the
address where the code is that makes the program launch and executes it. The
address is written in, you guessed it, hex. An example of an address would be
something like this:

5108 would be the actual specific address and 101c would be the sector
of RAM were the address is located. Those are the basics of Hexadecimal
You should probley read this chapter againbecause getting a firm grasp on hex
is essential to cracking and moding programs.

---RAM and ROM--------

In this section we are gonna learn about RAM and ROM. Many people kno about
the hardware part of RAM and ROM and that's gonna be very useful to you......
just not in this tutorial. =) We are about to learn about the "software" side. I use the
term software loosly in that software tends to have a GUI (Graphical User Interface)
and this does not. BUT, there are ways to access and modify the behavior of it that
I will talk about in this chapter, as well as in the next. To start off, I'll answer some
common questions:

What is RAM?

RAM (Random Access Memory) is basically memory and the process of accessing it.
The term "Random Access Memory" was approprietly given to this memory unit because
when executing a command, the CPU doesn't have to scroll through all the memory on
your PC until it finds the right address. It "randomly" whips out the addy from it's back
pocket and serves it up.This process is both quick and efficient. Learning this process
will help you understand the ASM functions in the next chapter.

How does RAM work?

When a command is issued and the memory is pulled from file, it must first go through
what is called a "vector". A vector is a "gateway" or a "sector" of RAM where the address
of the function is stored with others of it's own kind. An example of a vector would be
something like this:

This means that all "addressii" (hehe) that are between those values are stored in that
sector of RAM. A vector acts as a gateway in that, first, pass through a vector to get to
address. Your average program probley has about 30 to 40 main vectors, sectioning
off from boot until exit. Knowing the vector of an addy or a function will greatly reduce
your headache when you start searching for it.

ROM. ROM is a part of memory that doesn't change. (Although we can change it.=) )
Boot ROM for instance, follows the same plan of action it is called upon. ROM also has
vectors, just like RAM. ROM is not that important when it comes to cracking to we will
leave it alone for now.

Back to RAM. Believe it or not, but addressii (there I go again, I'm such a g33k.)
actually follow certain formats or syntax's for certain functions. Take hot keys for
example: In the under ground, we call them "Joker commands". By pressing a certain
combonation of keys, a program will run, close, be stupid, whatever. The syntax for a
Joker command is as follows:

Let's examine this format a little closer.

0d= The proclemation of a specifyed format

aaaaa= The address of the function

f= The float or remainder; "Floating point number" ; decimal

000= "NOP" No operation

z= The "Booleon" as we the C++ programmers call it. A booleon is an "IF, THEN" statement.
"IF this is true, THEN do this." Value 0= equal; 1= different; 2=less than; 3=greater than.

vvvv= The combonation of hex values (The values of the keys pressed) used to execute the "CALL"

Say the "A" key had a vlaue of fffb and the "B" key has a vlaue of fffd. You would then add both
values using a hex calculator and get fff9 as the sum. The output on you calculator would
show 1fff8. Add the first value and the last value to find the fourth byte segment. So say
we've found the address of the Joker function (usually in the boot ROM sector) commonly
called the "Maple address" and we are ready to program in some hex code. Our code may
look like this:

This means that IF the value of fff9 (A and B) is equal (0) to the address (aaaaf) of the function,
THEN execute it. See? Easy isn't it? You'll need to know things like this when modding programs
as a use of executing of your arbitrary code in certain parts of your program at a certain time.
Joker commands are also reversable in that if you enter the same code except with a 1,2, or 3,
in the z slot and by changing the button combonations. Reversable meaning terminating the
function or other functions that were started. A good use for this is for firewalls and babysitting
programs. Are you on a college machine and can't download stuff because of that pesky firewall?
Crack it open and program in some Joker commands so you can turn it on and off at will
WITHOUT the administrator's password!

To start off with our small and to the point ASM section, I'll warn you in advance, after reading this,
you'll need to go take a shower cause this is disgusting! Here we go!

To begin, I'm gonna define for you some functions that you'll be seeing alot of, and be using. Here they are:

The easy thing about most of the functions in ASM are that they sound like what they mean.
Jump, means of coarse, to Jump from one thing to another. Example:

"jmp 00401744" would mean to jump directly to the address 00401744 once the code
hits the function.

Let's look at "CALL". Call is a function that is used to "call" a certain task, string, address, whatever.
Take a look at this example:

"Call 0040ccc2" this would of coarse call the address 0040ccc2 and use it. Those are the functions
you'll be using.

The reason why I'm not going into loads of detail in this chapter is because when
cracking software, not an extensive amount of knowledge of ASM is needed. If you want
to know more or need help with something, e-mail me at the address provided at the end of
this tutorial. This chapter wasn't so nasty was it? Nah, it was easy =)

---Cracking-----------------------------

Ok, here we go! The first thing you need to do is to open up SoftIce and then swolf32.exe which is the name given to our
target program. Go to the help menu and select register. Here's where your brain will come in, start to look
for how the protection is running by entering some random crap into the blank space. Don't press the OK button yet though.
Instead, press CTRL-D to bring up SoftIce. What we are gonna try to do is define a breakpoint, using BPX hmemcpy.
Hit CTRL-D again and it will bring you back to the program. Click OK on the box and SoftIce will again pop up. Now press F12
and it will bring you to the target program code. Scroll down a few lines and find:

As we can see by the above, the code tells us that the first value of our serial will
be 'p' and a cycle of a four byte algorythm. I could go on and on about all of the internals
of all this stuff but that would be going beyond the scope of this tutorial. The idea was to show
how to crack this pro, and thats what I'm going to do. Based on the information I've given you, and the
information that you can deduce from reading the code, I've written a small key generator in C.
If you know C, then you'll be able to tell where i got the algorythms to write it. So here it is:

Ok! So! An overall conclusion of this code is:

1.First two characters of the serial must be either 'PE' or 'P4'.
2.Multiply every first four characters or our name with every byte of our serial before '-'
3.XOR every four byte with every byte of our name.
4.Convert to positive number if<0.
5.Convert to number between 10000 and 1000000.

To restrict a users logon hours , use the net user command. These commands are used from the Command Prompt. (Start - RUN - and type cmd)

Below are some examples:

1 - net user Joanna /time:M-F,08:00-17:00

2 - net user Ninja /time:M-F,8am-5pm

3 - net user Echelon /time:M,4am-5pm;T,1pm-3pm;W-F,8:00-17:00

4 - net user Shine /time:all (this one means this user can always log on)

Note:You can only restrict when a user can log on to the system. On a stand alone computer, there is no way to force a user to log off when their hours expire, without a third party script or software.

Recover a Corrupted System File

If an essential Windows file gets whacked by a virus or otherwise corrupted, restore it from the Windows CD. Search the CD for the filename, replacing the last character with an underscore; for example, Notepad.ex_. If it's found, open a command prompt and enter the command EXPAND, followed by the full pathname of the file and of the desired destination: EXPAND D:\SETUP\NOTEPAD.EX_ C:\Windows\NOTEPAD.EXE. If either pathname contains any spaces, surround it with double quotes.

If the file isn't found, search on the unmodified filename. It will probably be inside a CAB file, which Win XP treats as a folder. Simply right-drag and copy the file to the desired location. In other Windows platforms, search for a file matching *.cab that contains the filename. When the search is done, open a command prompt and enter EXTRACT /L followed by the desired location, the full pathname of the CAB file, and the desired filename; for example: EXTRACT /L C:\Windows D:\I386\Driver.cab Notepad.exe. Again, if the destination or CAB file pathname contains spaces, surround it with double quotes.

Install Windows XP using USB Flash Disk/ Flash Drive - Step by Step Guide

Someone in this post (Acer Aspire One Specifications and Windows XP Drivers) ask me to write a tutorial about how to install Windows XP using USB flash disk/flash drive.
If you want to install Windows XP, but your notebook (or PC) has no CDROM, you should install Windows XP using USB Flash disk/Flash Drive/Thumb drive...
just follow this guide :

step 1:
Buy an USB Flash Drive (at least 2GB).
When you do this tutorial, please make sure your computer/laptop/PC has a CD-ROM (or DVD).
so, now you have 2 computers, with CD-ROM support and without CD-ROM support (e.g Acer Aspire One, Asus EEE-PC).

step 2:
Download this software pack (Komku-SP-usb.exe - Download) 1.47MB

Destination Drive : select USB Removable
check on Enable Disk Format
check on Quick Format
check on Enable LBA (FAT 16x)
Drive Label : XP-KOMKU (or whatever you want)
then click Start

Click Yes to continue....

"You are about to repartition and format a disk. Disk: .... All existing volumes and data on that disk will be lost. Are You Sure You Want To Continue?"
click Yes

Wait a few seconds...

Click OK, and you can close PeToUSB window.

step 5:
Open Command Prompt ...
Click Start > Run > type cmd > click OK

On Command Prompt window, go to directory C:\Komku\bootsect\
how to do this?

first type this cd\ and press Enter

then type cd komku\bootsect and press Enter

the result...

Don't close Command Prompt window, and go to step 6...

step 6:
on command prompt window, type bootsect /nt52 H:

H: is drive letter for my USB Flash Drive, it may be different with yours...

and press Enter

the result... "Successfully updated filesystem bootcode. Bootcode was succesfully updated on all targeted volumes."

don't close Command Prompt window, and go to step 7...

step 7:
now type this cd.. and press Enter

then type cd usb_prep8 and press Enter

type usb_prep8 again... and pres Enter

now for point 2, if letter T is currently assigned to a drive in your computer, you must change it.... if not, leave it as it is

for example you doesn't have drive S
so you type S and press Enter

back to usb_prep8 welcome screen...
now type 3 and press Enter...

"Please give Target USB-Drive Letter e.g type U" Enter Target USB-Drive Letter:

so, type H and press Enter...

after back to usb_prep8 welcome screen...
now type 4 and press Enter to make new temporary image with XP LocalSource and copy it to USB Flash Drive
please wait a few seconds..

type Y and press Enter
please wait....
when format virtual disk complete, press any key to continue...

"Copy TempDrive Files to USB-Drive in about 15 minutes = Yes OR STOP = End Program = No"
Click Yes, and wait...

"Would you like USB-stick to be preferred Boot Drive U: bla... bla..."

"Would you like to unmount the Virtual Drive ?"
Click Yes, wait a few seconds, and press any key....
press any key again to close usb_prep8...

Now, your USB Flash Drive is ready...

step 9:
Now, insert your USB Flash Drive/Flash Disk/Thumb Drive to your notebook (e.g Acer Aspire One) go to BIOS and make USB HDD (or USB ZIP in some other machine) as primary boot device....

then boot form your USB Flash Drive....
and select "TXT Mode Setup Windows XP, Never unplug USB-Drive Until After Logon"

After Hard Disk detected, delete all partition, create single partition... and install Windows XP on that partition...
and wait...

once text mode setup is complete, computer will restart....
this time select "GUI Mode setup Windows XP, Continue Setup + Start XP"

Continue Windows XP setup.... and Done!
Windows XP Installed....

Remember, you can use this tutorial to install Windows XP on all other computers.. not just Aspire One and Asus EEE-PC....

Trying to restore XPSP3 on Medion akoya MD96910 netbook. Worked fine until 99% of files copied then got: Setup cannot copy the file: iaahci.cat - giving 3 options (retry, skip, quit). Retry didn't work so skipped. Similar message for iaahci.inf iaStor.cat iaStor.inf iaStor.sys. Subsequent XP Boot then failed. I do not understand why the intelSATA drivers (these files) won't load. Will try again with Netbook Bios AHCI mode set to Disable but not confident that will make any difference. Help!
Ref: MD96910 netbook restore. With AHCI mode disabled it works without loading the intelSATA files. I assume these will have to be loaded, just got to figure how to do that now! Thanks for great install guide - brilliant. If you could put a comment about intelSATA it would be great, I cannot be the only person who doesn't understand it.

use another USB port... My friend tried it on his Lenovo... when he plug in his USB flashdrive on left side of his notebook... PeToUSB didn't find any removable flashdrive... he change it to the right side then it works (XP) :)

I was having the "No USB Disks" error with PeToUSB as well with by Samsung U3 (2G) and my microSD + Reader (4G) on 32-bit Vista. The USBs were all formatted to FAT.
Then I switched to XP, and the USB was detected

I want do this is Vista...

If you're on Windows Vista, try using the "Run as Administrator" function for both formatting the drive and command prompt.

Type these commands in AutoCAD's command line:

Relocate the object to the positive X-Y-Z octant
Use the STLOUT command to export an STL file. (AMSTLOUT for AutoCAD Desktop files)

Autodesk Inventor

The detail settings for STL Output are stored in the registry. Information on changing the detail level can be found at Autodesk's website, under the title "Set accuracy for exporting STL files from Autodesk Inventor software" and ID TS64378.
Go to the File menu, then select the Save Copy As... choice
Select STL from the Types drop-down

How to hack Windows XP Admin Passwords

This hack will only work if the person that owns the machine has no intelligence. This is how it works: When you or anyone installs Windows XP for the first time, you are asked to put in your username and up to five others. Now, unknowns to many other people this is the only place in Windows XP that you can password the default Administrator Diagnostic Account. This means that to bypass most administrators account son Windows XP all you have to do is boot to safe mode by pressing F8during boot up and choosing it. Log into the Administrator Account and create your own or change the password on the current Account. This only works if the user on setup specified a password for the Administrator Account.

This has worked for me on both Windows XP Home and Pro.

If you log into a limited account on your target machine and open up a dos prompt then enter this set of commands Exactly: (this appeared on www.astalavista.com a few days ago but i found that it wouldn't work on the welcome screen of a normal booted machine)

Once this happens if you enter this command minus the quotes "net user <admin account name here> password" If the Administrator Account is called Frank and you want the password blah enter this "net user Frank blah" and this changes the password on franks machine to blah and you're in.

The Secret Language of Women

VISA - MasterCard Fraud

Just a heads up for everyone regarding the latest in Visa fraud. Royal Bank received this communication about the newest fraud. This is happening in southern Alberta right now and moving.

This one is slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.

This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you will be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'.

The Fraud works like this:

Person calling says - 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I am calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card, which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase Pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?' You say 'yes'.

The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6-digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'

Here is the IMPORTANT part on how the fraud works - The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He will ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'. There are seven numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card.
These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the three numbers, he will say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?'

After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number. However, after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a fraud and in the last 15 minutes, a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Do not give it to them. Instead, tell them you will call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.

The real VISA told us that they would never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit; however, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

It appears that this is a very active fraud, and evidently quite successful.

With so many of us spending lots of time in front of the computer every day it comes to no surprise that research is showing a rise in visual problems. What can one do? First, it’s important to find out how you can protect your eyes through eye health exams and by making a few minor changes in your computer viewing habits.

Here are some helpful Eye Care Tips -

Positioning is everything

Correct positioning of your computer, keyboard and typing copy is essential. Your screen should be positioned about an arm’s length from your eyes and 20 degrees below eye level. Consider foot and wrist rests for added comfort.

Lighting can make all the difference

Room lighting should be diffuse, not direct, to reduce glare and reflections from your screen. Look into an internal or external glare screen and be sure to set your colour, contrast and brightness levels to suit you.

A little extra help for your glasses

Anti-reflective coatings on the lenses of your glasses can be applied by your optometrist to reduce discomfort and to ease reduced vision from bright and/or flickering light sources such as VDTs and fluorescent lights. And don’t forget, your doctor of optometry can talk to you about eyeglasses designed specifically for people who use computers a lot.

Take time out, our 20-20-20 rule

Step I :-
After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.
Step II :-
Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.
Step III :-
Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

It’s all in the blinking

Did you know that on average we blink 12 times per minute? But wait, did you know that when we’re on the computer we only blink 5 times per minute? That can add up to dry eyes. Relieve the discomfort by using artificial tear drops or gels and remember to blink!

Palming
Sit straight at your workstation and rub your palms against each other till you feel them warm. The warmth of your palms helps soothe and relax tired eyes. Then, lightly cup your eyes with your palms and relax for 60 seconds. Count the seconds in your mind. Repeat this exercise two to three times whenever your eyes feel tired, or as often as you want. While palming, you can either rest your elbows on your desk or keep away from the desk and cup your eyes. Both ways are fine.

Splash water on your face
During breaks, splash water on your face while closing your eyes. This has an overall relaxing effect and helps you feel refreshed.

Use tea bags
Keep two used tea bags in the refrigerator before you leave for work. Once you are home, place the tea bags on your eyes for a few minutes as you relax. This not only soothes tired eyes, but also reduces puffiness.

Eat healthy
Incorporate Vitamins A, C, and E on a daily basis; eat citrus fruits, green leafy veggies, tomatoes, spinach, poultry and dairy products. Pack a box of chopped carrots, cucumber and fresh fruits and munch in-between meals at the office.

Create Your Own Logon Message

You can create a message that will appear when you log on to your computer.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Maintaining your Machine, What makes your machine slow?

I've heard a lot of comments from the malware staffs that there are a lot of people thinking that a slow computer is caused by malware. However, a slow PC might have several causes other than malware. In this thread I will be giving you a step by step guide on how to speed up your PC. The main thing that slows your PC down, if it's not malware, is clogged up Temp files.

Here's a list of common causes of slow machines:

Low amount of memory (RAM)
Multiple protection systems installed
Many programs on startup
Full temp folders
Fragmented hard drive
Forgotten programs
Multiple of the above

1. Low amounts of memory (RAM)
I have had a lot of people in my neighbourhood asking me why their PC was slow. One of the highest causes was the low amount of memory in their PCs. A lot of old PCs still have 256 MB RAM in their machine while Windows XP already has a recommended of 512 MB and Vista is even more demanding with a stunning 1024 MB (1GB). Having a low amount of memory can cause the PC to take ages in performing what we would think to be simple tasks. While this is usually true, the PC doesn't only have to run the simple task, but at the same time keep services up, your Protection software running and possibly more programs that are running in the background. Therefore it is a good idea to have at least the recommended amount of memory in your machine for the operating system that you are running. If you are going to be running a lot of programs at once, consider taking at least 512 MB above recommendation to keep everything running smoothly.

2. Multiple protection systems installed
As I'm not trained in Malware Removal and do not know a lot about how Protection Systems work I shall quote from a blog post by Miekiemoes found here. (Also worth reading!!)

This is a common mistake many users make. They think that having more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed will protect them in a better way. It won't.. On the contrary..
Rather than giving you extra protection, it will seriously decrease reliability and effectiveness ! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also, if more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown. It happens quite a lot that a system won't even boot properly because of more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed.
When having general computer problems and you have more than one AV/Firewall installed, this can be the main cause of your problems.

Concerning Antispywarescanners, it's ok for you to install more than one.However, it's not advised that you let them all start up with Windows, running as a Real Time scanner. Only keep one running in the background and disable the rest, because AntispywareScanners are also resource hogs. They are actually all doing the same, so it's really not needed to have more of them running in the background. After all, you do not use more than one different vacuum cleaner either to clean your carpet with.
Just let the Antispyware scanner(s) scan once in a while on demand.

3. Many programs on start-up
Having many programs in the startup will slow your computer down. Taking out programs that aren't necessary on startup will reduce the resource requirements on boot and will generally make the PC run faster. To remove programs from your startup list, follow the instructions below.

XP Users:

Open Start Menu and select "Run..."
In the run box type: msconfig and press enter.
A window will appear, go to the Startup tab.
In the startup tab, disable tick boxes on all the programs that don't necessarily need to be started at boot.

Vista Users:

Open Start Menu and in the white box type: msconfig
Click msconfig.exe that appeared in the list and confirm the UAC.
A window will appear, go to the Startup tab.
In the startup tab, disable tick boxes on all the programs that don't necessarily need to be started at boot.

4. Cleaning the Temporary Folders.
As a lot of you might know, the more Windows has to load the slower a PC will be.
The temp folders can fill up quite quickly and having a temp folder of 2 Gigabyte won't do windows any good.
The steps below are easy steps using a simple program to clean out your temp folders.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

5. Defragging your Hard Drive.
While temp folders are one way to clog the speed of your system, fragmented files are another. The more fragmented your files are the slower the hard drive will be to run programs smoothly. A defrag is recommended to keep your hard drive clean and fast. It is recommended that you do not run any programs whatsoever when you are defragging your hard drive as running applications will make them unable to be moved.

Unzip the program to a folder.
Reboot to release most of the files in use.
Double Click JkDefrag.exe to run the program.

6. Keeping it clean!
Something that is highly underestimated is the simpleness of 'Keeping it clean!'. Installing a lot of programs will eventually use up your resources that you could use to keep your PC fast.Removing old programs that you never used, or those 'one-day-fly' programs that you try out but don't meet your criteria, will free up space and memory to be used elsewhere. Whenever you are done with a program, remove it from your system so the resources free up. Below are some steps to get rid of some unused programs.

Open Start and select Control Panel
Open Add/Remove Programs(XP) or Programs and Features(Vista)
Go through the list carefully and see if there are any useless programs that you can remove.
Remove all the programs that you don't need any more.

7. Little tweaks for speed.
There are a few tricks that you can use to speed up your computer if need be. Below I will make a list of tweaks for either XP or Vista (watch the title) that will help you speed up your PC. Some tweaks are for both XP and Vista, others are for a specific OS.

Disabling Indexing Service (XP)
Quoting from the Windows Help and Support:
QUOTE
By default, all of the most common files on your computer are indexed. Indexed locations include all of the files in your personal folder (such as Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos), as well as e‑mail and offline files. Files that are not indexed include program files and system files. The locations that contain those files are not indexed because you rarely need to search those files, and so not including them in the index makes your searches perform faster.

Like many other people, I know where my files are located, so I never use the indexing service. Therefore, I turn it off.
The indexing service is a service that scans your personal files and folders and stores which files are there in an index (hence the name).
Then if you perform a search, the search will then first go through the index to see if it is there. This will speed up searches drastically.
Though if you never use the search function, you're better off turning it off. Below is how.

Open Start and select "Run..."
In the run box type services.msc and press enter
Scroll-down to Indexing Service and double-click it.
If the service status is "Running", then stop it by pressing theStop button.
To make sure this service doesn't run again, under Startup Type:, choose Disabled

Disabling Indexing Service (Vista)
Not much different from the XP Indexing service. Here is how to disable it.

Open Start Menu and type: services
Click the Services program that popped up in the list and confirm the UAC.
Scroll down to Windows Search and double click it.

Some things you may be able to edit, change. or keep an eye on to keep your computers performing their best...

This guide consists of several random tips you could do to optimize your computer(s). It is probably not a good idea to go down the list doing everything mentioned. Focus on things pertaining to you, and your system...some tips may not apply to you. There will be a lot of information below, most concentrated around Windows XP, and I will keep this guide up to date as things change. I hope you find it informative. ENJOY!!

One thing that I'll discuss before the listing starts is the defragmenting of hard drives. Defragmenting is not always the answer to problems. I hear that a lot around my work place and in various conversations. It is a process that holds some weight but it's not the fix-all cure by any means.

For those that are not completely sure, defragmenting reorganizes all the data on a hard drive so that each file is arranged in a contiguous place on the disk. I think that in the Windows 95 and 98 days, defragmenting was the answer before in-depth system issues were addressed. Nowadays, that is no longer the case. Serial ATA hard drives, NTFS (NT File System), 7200 and 10,000 RPM hard drives, with 8mb cache buffers helped to throw the need a little further back. So see, you remember or know of all these...it's been a while since defragmenting was the ultimate fix now hasn't it?

So why is defragmenting still important? Heat, power consumption, and disk failures. The heat occurs when the disk is in seek mode looking for the file(s) you've selected and if they are not contiguous; the longer the seeking process; the more heat generated and power consumption or your PSU (power supply unit) being used. Disk failures, well...if one should occur and you disk is not properly fragmented, recovering lost files may be more of a task than intended.

Next question I'd be able to think of on this would be, what is best program to use when defragmenting? Every company wants you to think it is there application that does it best, but truth is, Windows XP built in defragmenter is all you need for this task.

So aside from defragmenting and what it prevents or helps with, what else can be done to optimize a system ran by XP?

** If your PC has less than 512 MB of RAM, add more memory. It is an inexpensive way to speed up your system's performance. If you are unsure what to buy you can do one of two things if not both. Take one of your memory sticks to the store with you and write down your motherboard's information. This will ensure the retailers can help you buy compatible memory for your system.

** Ensure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system.

Check for File System Type:
Double Click "My Computer" > Right Click on the "(C-Drive)" > then select properties > --- The file system type should read NTFS or FAT32. If it says FAT32, backup any important information on your system.

Convert from FAT32 to NTFS
To convert it to NTFS, do the following: Start > Run > Type "cmd" > then click ok. > at the command prompt type "CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and select ENTER

It may take a little while to convert but this conversion offers better security, reliability, and more efficient performance...especially with larger hard drives.

** Disable file indexing

All you need to do is right click on the hard drive(s) in question while in the My Computer view and select properties. At the bottom of that window, you will see the info to the left. Just uncheck the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" and you're done.

**Empty the Windows Prefetch folder on occasion
Windows XP can "prefetch" portions of data and applications that are used frequently. This makes processes appear to load faster when called upon by the user. Over time, the prefetch folder may become overloaded with references to files and applications no longer in use. When that happens, Windows XP is wasting time, and slowing system performance, by pre-loading them. Nothing critical is in this folder, and the entire contents are safe to delete. Those of you using the little guide I made about Making Applications Load Faster, this will help to optimize it's performance. This is just like clearing your cache files for an internet browser, only towards your programs versus online content.

** Update the PC's video and motherboard chipset drivers. Also, update and configure the BIOS. See your components manufacturer's site for details on how to accomplish this for you specific board.

** Run a disk cleanup about once a month.
Double-click the My Computer icon. Then right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button and delete all temporary files. Simple.

** Upgrade the cabling
Be sure to use 80-wire Ultra-133 cables on all of your IDE devices with the connectors properly assigned. Of course, I recommend 1,000 times over, if your system supports it...make the switch to Serial ATA hard drives.

** Remove all spy ware from the computer
Use free programs such as Ad Aware by Lavasoft or SpyBot Search & Destroy. Once these programs are installed, be sure to check for and download any updates before starting your search. Anything either program finds can be safely removed. Both of these applications and more are available here at xtreme-source for download.

** Remove any unnecessary programs and/or items from Windows Startup routine using the MSCONFIG utility.
Here's how: Start > Run, type MSCONFIG, and click OK.
Click the StartUp tab, then uncheck any items you don't want to start when Windows starts.

** Programs that just don't matter anymore...
Remove any unnecessary or unused programs from the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel. Once this has been done, and your system restarted; you may need to manually delete left over program file folders from their install directory. The default location is: Crogram Files. If you really want to go above and beyond; deleting irrelevant registry entries could also help to clean up clutter. If you are not sure about messing with your system registry files, then don't. From there you have 3 options: use an application that will do it for you, ask for help on doing it in these forums, or leave it be. I recommend not choosing number three.

** Extra animations...
Turn off any and all unnecessary animations, and disable active desktop. In fact, for optimal performance, turn off all animations. Windows XP offers many different settings in this area. Here is how:
Select the System icon in the Control Panel. Next, click on the advanced tab. Select the Settings button located under Performance.

Now look around, test out some features...see what you want or might not want; then check and uncheck at your own free will. There is absolutely nothing in that window of "visual effects" that could harm your system if disabled.

** Registry Tweaks
If you are familiar with out PC tutorial section at all, you'll have noticed that the staff and members have added quite a few registry tweaks. Many of them can be helpful to your system in more ways than one. If you feel comfortable trying some, please do. If not, just ask one of us, or someone for assistance. The BEST advice anyone can offer when it comes to registry editing is, "Always Make a Backup".

** Anti-Virus Protection
I will say this; there are always new developments and "so-called innovative ways" for people to penetrate networks, systems, and even your personal computers and laptops. This bullet of the guide will not say, you must use anti-virus protection. If you do use anti-virus protection make sure it's up to date as often as possible. Also, make sure that you are not using conflicting protection programs. If you do choose not to have a way of prevention/protection, I trust you have enough knowledge to handle such incidents or at least the means to recover your system, network, and/or files.

** Physical cleaning of the casing and hardware
I've heard a many things on this; annually, every 4 months, every 6 months, the list goes on. Bottom line is; you are the only one that knows the condition of your PC and it's components...or at least you should know them the best. Depending on how well your case is built, sealed...the climate you're in (i.e. desert, city), physical location of the computer(s), and other factors all play a role in the detailing of your PC's components. The best advice I can give is to check your system periodically, clean when necessary. Dust can contribute to a lot of bad performance of your system (i.e. overheating, slow browsing, slow performance).One of the most effective tools are air cans. Clean your systems, cake-like dust bunnies are never good!

** Disable unnecessary services
Windows XP loads a lot of services that your customer most likely does not need. Here is the guide on navigating and accomplishing this task: How to Disable Unnecessary Services

** Faster Burn Speeds...
Free and effective are firmware upgrades for just about ever cd or dvd recorder available. Just look at the drive manufacturer's website for the latest updated firmware to apply it to your setup. In some cases, firmware updates may give your burner faster speeds.

You can also use applications to update a firmware to many drives. One application that works really well is DvD Decrypter. If you use this application, it's more than just an image burner and dvd converter. How??

All you need to do is open the application then go > Tools > Drive > Check for firmware upgrades (at the very bottom). You will then see a window pop-up similar to this:

It will give you current firmware for the drive selected, like above, once you select ok it will check the web for your latest firmware. If you have a new one available, download it, then install to your system. A restart may be needed once done.

** Do not partition the hard drive
Windows XP's NTFS file system runs BETTER on one large partition. Reformatting the hard drive is not required to re-install an operating system. The only time partitioning is beneficial to your system is when you are running more than one operating system. Otherwise, enable NTFS (like shown earlier) and press forward...

Hidden Windows XP Tips

1 - Total Uptime

It boasts how long your computer has been running.

Click Start, then run and then type 'systeminfo'.

The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad.

2 - Delete Files Immediately

You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first. Go to the Start menu, select Run... and type 'gpedit.msc'; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care -- some may stop your computer behaving as you wish.

3 - Lock XP

You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation' in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same.

4. Remove System Software

XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can make it show everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word 'hide' and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be the software and you can now uninstall it.

5. Interesting New Commands

For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include 'eventcreate' and 'eventtriggers' for creating and watching system events, 'typeperf' for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and 'schtasks' for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? will give a list of options.

6. IP Version 6 Support

XP has IP version 6 support -- the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than your ISP has, so you can only experiment with this on your LAN. Type 'ipv6 install' into Run... (it's OK, it won't ruin your existing network setup) and then 'ipv6 /?' at the command line to find out more. If you don't know what IPv6 is, don't worry.

7. Task Termination

You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using 'taskkill /pid' and the task number, or just 'tskill' and the process number. Find that out by typing 'tasklist', which will also tell you a lot about what's going on in your system.

8. ZIP Files as Folders

XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you've got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files alone by typing 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can change things back by typing 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'.

9. XP Has ClearType

XP has ClearType -- Microsoft's anti-aliasing font display technology -- but doesn't have it enabled by default. It's well worth trying, especially if you were there for DOS and all those years of staring at a screen have given you the eyes of an astigmatic bat. To enable ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2.

10. Remote Assistance:

You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who's using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your friend's real IP address -- they can find this out by going to www.whatismyip.com -- and get them to make sure that they've got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant computer.

11. User Task Management

You can run a program as a different user without logging out and back in again. Right click the icon, select Run As... and enter the user name and password you want to use. This only applies for that run. The trick is particularly useful if you need to have administrative permissions to install a program, which many require. Note that you can have some fun by running programs multiple times on the same system as different users, but this can have unforeseen effects.

12. Disable Default Notifications

Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might go insane before that point, run Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips with a value of 0.

13. Faster Startup

You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run... from the start menu and type 'control userpasswords2', which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use.

14. Delete Temp Internet Files Automatically

Internet Explorer 6 will automatically delete temporary files, but only if you tell it to. Start the browser, select Tools / Internet Options... and Advanced, go down to the Security area and check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed.

15. Network Activity Light

XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can't see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection, select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You'll now see a tiny network icon on the right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic.

16. Speed-Up Your Start Menu

The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 to something a little snappier. Like 0.

17. Batch Rename Files

You can rename loads of files at once in Windows Explorer. Highlight a set of files in a window, then right click on one and rename it. All the other files will be renamed to that name, with individual numbers in brackets to distinguish them. Also, in a folder you can arrange icons in alphabetised groups by View, Arrange Icon By... Show In Groups.

18. Album Cover Arts

Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks -- if it found the picture on the Internet when you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn't, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg and Windows Media Player will pick it up and display it.

19. Handy Shortcut Keys

Windows key + Break brings up the System Properties dialogue box;

How to upload and seed a torrent on a torrent site/server?

STEP 1

First of all you need to register to a bitorrent site/server.

STEP 2

Second you need to be carefull with the site(s) you chose to upload since they have they're own set of rules and restrictions, and some or specialized in only a few domains like movies only, tv series only, anime only, porn etc. If you upload something witch that site sayd is forbiden to upload you're upload will be deleted imediately and you have nice chances of getting banns from 15days up to permanent banns, so be careful what you're uploading, in what section you're uploading it, and always read the rules to a site before uploading anything.

STEP 3

After you make an acc, most of these sites require email confirmation before you're acc can be accesable, so when making an acc insert in a valid email adress.

STEP 4

You just made an acc on an everyday/private torrent tracker witch you have chosen, and now you want to upload on it you're first upload whatever that would be. I'll try to be as specific as i can in this guide.
Download a BitTorrent client witch supports not only downloading but uploading(seeding) and "Create a torrent" option as also, if the BitTorrent client you have downloaded does not work in doing what i wrote above get rid of it and get uTorrent or BitSpirit or any other if you like as long as it respects the requirements i wrote above. Usually every torrent client are like 85% the same(the same as in having similar options).

You downloaded and just installed a torrent client, and now you're thinking of making and uploading you're first torrent.
I'll guide you through using BitSpirit(don't be scared or angry if you're using something else, since as i wrote above, 85% of torrent clients have almost the exact option names and features).
Open BitSpirit, go at the top left of BS and find an option called "Functions" at other torrents you might find this not here but in "File > Add Torrent(no default save)...". After you find "Functions" click on "Make Torrent", after clicking this, you will be asked what do you want to insert in you're torrent, usually they are called "Source File(s)". If you are planning to upload only 1 single file i.e. audio track(MP3), single zip/rar file, etc. then chose "Single File", if you want to upload a folder with more files or folders in it then chose "Directory (Multi Files)" or you can chose "Directory (One By One)" witch lets generate a torrent file for each file in the directory(not including sub directory) but i haven't tryied this "Directory (Multi Files" feature yet, and i dont want to talk about things i have not tryied. Then browse for the "content" you want to make as a torrent by pressing the button "Browse" or "..." options. After you selected you're content's file(s) you will see under it a small label with above it, written "Tracker List" if you do not insert in that small label/box a tracker then you're torrent will be dead and of no use(at least thats what happend to me the first time i tryied to upload something). How to find trackers? Usually at any torrent you download if you double click on it and go at "Tracker List" you will see there what trackers it's uploader has inserted, or you can read as i sayd the torrent site rules and there at the uploading FAQ you should be seeing some torrent trackers recomended by that site. I for one am inserting ALL these trackers to my uploaded torrents:

But if you're a newbie and don't want to complicate you're self simply add one of the trackers above. After you added you're content and you're tracker(s) browse for a location where to save the torrent and simply click "Make Torrent" or "Create" or whatever it's called at other BitTorrent clients.

STEP 6 - UPLOADING

Once you have made the torrent you want to upload on a torrent site, you have to do the following:
- Open you're browser
- Go to the site you have chosen to host the torrent and registered at
-Log-In!
-Try to find an option like "Upload a torrent" or go to you're settings and try to find "My Uploads" you might be able to upload the torrent from there if you can't find the "Upload a torrent" option. After you have clicked "Upload a torrent" a small windows should pop with an option like "Browse" here you have to browse for the torrent you have made with BitSpirit or other bit torrent client you downloaded. After you did that, you will to select a category and a sub category something like: Category - Movies, Sub Category - Action, Drama, SCI-FI etc, understand what i mean? This is just an example, hope you guys got it. BTW be sure to select the right category for you're torrent since some admins on some sites, are to lazy to move them at the proper category and they will delete you're torrent. After you have uploaded you're torrent, and chose it's Category and Sub Category click upload, and you're browser will get white like 5seconds(from uploading the torrent and then auto-refresh) after that a small window will appear saying "Click here to view you're torrent" Once you have done this you're torrent will have 1 Seeds and 0 Leechers, or maybe at some sites you'll have 0 Seeds and 0 Leechers, depends where you're hosting it.

STEP 7 - SEEDING! FINAL STAGE!

Anyways if it's 1 Seeds and 0 Leechers most probably you cannot seed it until it is beying downloaded and Leechers are added to it. The system goes like this: with the passing time you're seeds are decreasing slowly and if many people are downloading you're upload then leechers will be added to you're torrent around 3x-4x-5x faster then by just beying there and not beying downloaded. Very few people are seeding, many are just snatching the torrent and running away with it. Unfortunately, i was doing the same...until i learned how to seed my, and other peoples torrents. After you're download hase Reached 0 Seeds and alot of Leechers or 1-2 Seeds and a tone of Leechers you can go to it(on the site) click on it, save as, and save it on desktop or wherever you like. After that, open it, and instead of tipically download it, go to a small box in the right(if you're using BitSpirit) and you'll find something like: "Download File(s)" click on it's right and select "Seeding File(s)" after doing so, under it there should be something like "Save to:", at "Save to:" instead of selecting a location where to download the torrent, select the location where the "Source File(s)" witch you have originally made the torrent out of, are located. It is very important you have not alterated the "Source File(s)" after you already made the torrent, if you do so it will result in the torrent unable to be seeded, and you just wasting you're time, only thing you can do is move it somewhere but dont change anything in it(if it's a folder that is) otherwise there wil be problems. After you selected the download location the "Source File(s)" of the torrent, you can click "OK" and that's it! Everytime the torrent has alot of leeches it will automatically start seeding the torrent you have uploaded. it should be looking something like DL speed 0kb/s, UL speed 5kb/s-150kb/s depending on you're internet connexion speed. To seed a torrent you have downloaded do the same as you have did seeding you're own torrent. To seed someone elses torrent, you first need to have the torrent already downloaded. After doing so just open the torrent select Seeding, and chose it's location, and now you can seed the movie or game you wanted so much and finally found it as i wrote above few are seeding the torrents they have downloaded from others, so it will be ou're choise if you are going to be one of them, or you are going to be one of thoes little thiefs witch just snatches the upload and runes, and does not thank the uploader by seeding the file he had hosted. I forgot to mention, if you chose to seed someone elses torrent, you must not modify it's "Source Files(s)" witch you have downloaded, otherwise it will not work. That's it! Now you know how to create and host a torrent on a torrent site/server and how to seed you're uploads and other peoples uploads. I apologies for the long tutorial, but when i write a walkthrough i want to be as precise as possible. If anyone has any questions feel free to post it or PM me.

Create a hidden folder - New method

There are many utility programs that allow you to protect, encrypt and hide your folders, But these programs are expensive and may damage your system

You can windows XP ability to create hidden folders :

1- create a folder
2- right click on folder and select properties
3- select customize tab and click on “change icon”, a dialog box appears
4- click on an empty area and click ok
5- now, you should rename your folder, press F2 and then hold down ALT and type 255 at the numbers key pad and finally press ENTER

You just have to remember the folders location in your hard drive.

Backup FIREFOX Preferences and Bookmarks

Most of you Firefox users must be knowing this but still.... for those who don't... here's how you back up your Firefox preferences..

SAVING PREFERENCES :

Go to your Firefox profile folder in Windows Explorer. The default location is Documents and Settings > USERNAME > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > cxhmjww8.default (this name is random)

The file you're looking for is prefs.js. Copy it to a USB stick or burn it to CD.

If you need to reinstall Firefox, drag your backup copy of prefs.js into this folder. You'll get a message asking if you want to replace the existing prefs.js file with your copied file -say yes, and you'll have restored your Firefox preferences the way you wanted them.

Of course there's no point backing up if you don't do it regularly - so be sure to update your saved prefs.js file when you tweak your Firefox settings.

SAVING BOOKMARKS :

To back up your Bookmarks,

Open Firefox
Go in Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks
Go to Import and Backup -> Export HTML...
Save it somewhere as a .html file and you're done.

When you want your bookmarks back after a reinstall, simply import this file in the same way...

SAVING PASSWORDS :

Go to Documents and Settings > USERNAME > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > cxhmjww8.default (this name is random)
Backup the following files : key3.db, signons2.txt (if you're using FF 2.0+) OR signons3.txt (if you're using FF 3.0+). These files contain data regarding your saved passwords. After a reinstall, overwrite these files back to this folder.

You can download the download manager FLASHGET (much better then getright, less bloaded)
But to use it with firefox you need the addon FLASHGOT

Then once the addon (flashgot) and Flashget are installed.
Highlight all the links in the codebox
RightClick the Links
Select FLASHGOT SELECTION, or if you have installed the linkification addon I described above, you can use "FlashGot ALL" this will bring up a list of all the links on the current page.
Make sure all your files are checked off in flashgot and click OK
Select your download folder, and all settings will be used for all files (option)

I have noticed sometimes with this and any other download manager, when downloading from Rapidshare, if you do not start the connection imediatly, the files may download 5KB junk files. Sometimes this means the links are dead, but a lot of times flashget waited to long and now your download link has changed (rapidshare changes download links often----direct download links that is... the links posted never change)

Because sometimes with Flashget you get those 5k junk files. This would be my more favorite download manager!

I have noticed that if you have too many files going at once, it really sucks back your bandwidth and makes your internet slow. This is why I always try with flashget first and only use DTA when I get 5kb junk files (I always test)

If you are using Flashget and you get 5kb files, and you know the links worked (you tested them, you should always test!) simply rightclick the downloaded file and select "Browse Refferer" this will open the page where you downloaded the file from, and you can then use DOWNTHEMALL to download your missing parts... This is rare, but it does happen... Updating your flashget often will prevent this!

Make Firefox 70% Faster ! (Easy Way)

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows: (by double clicking them)

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (I changed mine to 100, works great.)

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Change Ur IP Address in Less Than 20 Sec!!!

The following is a guide on how to change your IP in 30 seconds or less. This can be used if your IP has been banned from a game server, or on gunbound if your IP get's blocked. I've tried this on both Windows XP and Windows 2000, and it has worked:

1. Click on "Start" in the bottom left hand corner of screen
2. Click on "Run"
3. Type in "command" and hit ok

You should now be at an MSDOS prompt screen.

4. Type "ipconfig /release" just like that, and hit "enter"
5. Type "exit" and leave the prompt
6. Right-click on "Network Places" or "My Network Places" on your desktop.
7. Click on "properties"

You should now be on a screen with something titled "Local Area Connection", or something close to that, and, if you have a network hooked up, all of your other networks.

8. Right click on "Local Area Connection" and click "properties"
9. Double-click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list under the "General" tab
10. Click on "Use the following IP address" under the "General" tab
11. Create an IP address (It doesn't matter what it is. I just type 1 and 2 until i fill the area up).
12. Press "Tab" and it should automatically fill in the "Subnet Mask" section with default numbers.
13. Hit the "Ok" button here
14. Hit the "Ok" button again

You should now be back to the "Local Area Connection" screen.

15. Right-click back on "Local Area Connection" and go to properties again.
16. Go back to the "TCP/IP" settings
17. This time, select "Obtain an IP address automatically"
18. Hit "Ok"
19. Hit "Ok" again
20. You now have a new IP address

With a little practice, you can easily get this process down to 1

Is your PC clean?

And by that I mean – is it free from dust and dirt? Dust and dirt builds up inside a computer and this can affect your cooling fans, reducing the amount of airflow. Reduced airflow can cause your processor to overheat resulting in slow operation or even unexpected shutdowns. Many of today’s processors have the ability to “throttle back” (slow down) if the core temperature reaches a certain threshold. Cleaning the inside of your system is relatively easy – you just need to take some sensible precautions.

Clear out your Temp files.

Why? Well temp files can build up over time and eat into your precious disk space. When you install programmes, the installer uses temp (temporary) files as part of the set up process. Some programmes also use temp files when in use. These temp files should be removed when the installer or programme is finished, but this does not always happen. And, of course, your browser will collect temp files as well. A build up of temp files could leave Windows struggling to find room for its swap file (see below) – so everything slows down.

How do you clean out temp files? There are two easy ways – manually or by using a proprietary cleaning programme. Note that the cleaning programmes will often offer the option to clear out Temporary files created by your browser.

Manually (XP & Vista) – Firstly, exit all programmes, including browsers and AVs. Go to Start > Run and type %Temp% in the Run box and click OK. A folder will appear – it will contain temp files and temp folders. If you want to delete everything, press Ctrl+A (to select all) and then press the delete key. If you want to keep any files then hold down the Ctrl key and left click the file or folder. Then press the delete key. Click OK to confirm deletion. Once done, remember to go to your Recycle Bin and empty the bin.

Don’t forget XP does have it’s own utility for cleaning – it can be found via Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.

Any old programmes?

Do you still have some old programmes installed? When did you last use them? Remember that ‘trial’ software you installed? Has the trial period expired? Could you perhaps uninstall it (assuming you have the original installation disks)? Uninstalling such programmes will help free vital disk space. Oh, always re-boot after uninstalling – it helps to clear away the final remnants of an uninstalled programme.

Are you using unnecessary programmes?

By this I mean some of the numerous “enhancement” programmes available, that, while they may make your desktop look terribly exciting, are actually eating up precious resources. Things like third party screensavers and fancy wallpapers, Windows Taskbar replacements, WindowBlinds, Actual Transparent Window, XP Visual Styles, Stardock Theme Manager and so on. Nothing wrong with using them – they are all respected legitimate applications – but they may be contributing towards the slow down of your system.

Reduce the number of programmes loading at start up

Many applications insist on starting either the complete programme or a component of the programme whenever Windows starts. Many of these start ups are unnecessary and can be stopped. A good way to review the number of start up programmes is by using a start up manager utility, such as Spybot 1.5, StartUpLite or Autoruns. In Spybot, you’ll need to click Mode > Advanced to ensure you have access to the Tools section, then select System Startup in the left pane. A list of programmes that start when you boot up will be displayed in the right pane. You simply uncheck the ones you don’t need.

StartUpLite is very easy – just download the small file and double click StartUpLite.exe. A box appears showing programmes that don’t need to startup at boot. Choose whichever options you prefer and click Continue.

Autoruns gives you similar information, although presented in a slightly different way, and with more detail. Again, you simply uncheck a box beside the entry you wish to disable.

Remember to research a start up if you are not sure what it is – some of the entries that may appear and which can safely be disabled are things like Update Schedule entries for Adobe Acrobat, Sun Java, QuickTime and so on. If in doubt, post in our Forums, choosing the Forum that’s relevant to your Operating System. Alternatively, you can check Startup items here.

Note: You should NOT use MSConfig to permanently disable programmes from automatically starting at boot up. This utility is meant as a trouble-shooter – not a long term solution. If you uninstall a programme that has already been disabled using MSConfig, then it’s likely there will be orphaned Registry entries left behind. These could cause potential problems when trying to start your system. Use one of the start up managers mentioned above.

Do you have enough RAM?

Lack of memory can be a real issue, especially with today’s high performance machines and Operating Systems (OS). If you’re using Windows (and let’s face it, most of us are) then you need to ensure you have the appropriate amount of RAM for your system. Microsoft list “minimum requirements” with each OS – but they are in the business of selling software. That’s why their “minimum requirements” are always at the lower end of the scale. There are numerous sites around that will advise you need “x” amount for XP and “y” amount for Vista. As a general rule, Vista works well with 2GB and XP with 1GB. You can use more, of course, but as a minimum these figures are accurate.

If you don’t have very much RAM, what happens? Well, Windows loads programmes into memory to allow fast access. When it has no more memory left, it will start using your hard disk. This is much slower than using RAM, so your programmes will appear to run more slowly. The part of the hard disk used by Windows is called a swap file. So, a lack of RAM can also eat into your hard disk space as well.

RAM is not terribly expensive at the moment, so it makes sense to upgrade. You can find out what type of RAM you need by downloading PCWizard – a system analyser (it’s free!) or going to one of the manufacturer’s sites such as Crucial and using their memory advisor tool. Once you know the type of RAM you need, there are plenty of online stores to choose from.

Defrag your hard disk

Over a period of time, data written to your hard disk becomes fragmented or scattered all over the disk. This makes it harder for the system to find the data it needs. By defragging your disk, or putting the data in a more logical sequence, your system performance will improve. NOTE: Windows will not let you defrag a drive if there is less than 15% free space available. Keep an eye on your free space!

You could use a defragging utility such as Sysinternals PageDefrag – this is free and easy to use.

What about my swap file?

You can change the settings on your swap file to allow Windows to have more disk space to play with. This disk space is also known as Virtual Memory. For a 32 bit Operating System (which most users will have) set any amount up to a maximum of 4Gb. Try and at least match the amount of RAM in your system. Of course, you will need to have enough free disk space for this swap file.

Something else to consider is that the swap file should not be fragmented in order to obtain the best results. This can be done by selecting ‘No swap file’, rebooting (you have to do this, to apply the changes), defragging the drive and then resetting the swap file to a size of your choosing. The swap file will now be an area of the maximum contiguous (uninterrupted) free space – and therefore optimum performance.

Note: When choosing a value it is often suggested to set a static size swap file – set the Initial and Maximum amounts to the same value. This saves Windows from using resources to manage a dynamic swap file.

Does your hard disk contain errors?

A hard disk will not last forever. Even a new hard disk can have problems. However, many problems can be fixed, simply by running a Windows utility called ChkDsk. This will scan your hard disk and repair any file system errors while verifying the integrity of the drive. Guides from Microsoft on using ChkDsk can be found

Do your System Files contain errors?

Sometimes critical system files may become damaged or corrupt. This will obviously affect your computer’s performance. However, Windows has the ability to replace any damaged files on its own – this facility is called Windows File Protection. It can be started manually by typing a simple command into the Run box - sfc /scannow. This command immediately starts the Windows File Protection utility and it then checks and scans all system files to ensure their integrity.

For users with a pre-installed version of XP, sfc may ask you for your Windows CD in order to copy the relevant files. If you don’t have a Windows CD or if sfc cannot find the files it needs, please refer to Marc Liron’s article below.

For users who installed Service Pack 2 for XP by downloading from the internet, sfc may ask you for an XP SP2 CD – which you won’t have. You may need to create a slipstreamed CD to ensure sfc works correctly. Slipstreaming is simply a way of incorporating SP2 into your Windows installation – you create a new disk with Windows and SP2 all in one. Guides to slipstreaming can be found here and here, and a useful programme called Autostreamer, which does most of the work for you, can be downloaded here.

Note that Windows File Protection in Vista is now called Windows Resource Protection which, as well as protecting critical files, also protects the Registry. However, the basic principles are the same. To run the sfc command in Vista, you must be logged in as an Administrator.

Stopping unnecessary services

Windows generally comes with a raft of running services, many of which are not really required. You can safely stop some of these services and improve the boot time and speed of your system. Many installed programmes make themselves start up as soon as you boot the PC. They just run in the background, even although you don’t actually use them. Usually these programmes can be stopped from automatically loading – if you need to start them, you can do this manually.

One service that often causes a system to slow down is the Indexing Service – this can be turned off – see here for a guide.

Driver/Device Conflicts

Are all your hardware drivers up to date? Using an out of date driver could cause hardware conflicts and crash your system. Have a look at Microsoft’s suggestions on troubleshooting driver/device conflicts here.

Internet Explorer

IE 7 includes a phishing filter – very useful indeed. But it can slow down your browsing as the filter checks each web page. Have a look at Microsoft’s suggestions on this here.

Anti Virus Programmes

Never use more than one Anti Virus. Although it might sound like a great idea to run two or more, in reality it’s not. AVs usually have a ‘real time’ monitor that helps protect your system. This monitor will want to have a look at any file that changes or has been added to the system. If you have 2 AVs then every time one looks at a file, the other AV will think that file has changed so it will want to take a look as well. Now the second AV thinks that file has changed so it wants another look. So, of course, the first AV thinks that file has changed….you get the idea. You could end up with an unstable system, a really slow system or unexplained crashes.

And finally…

Having done all your tweaks and clean ups, create a new System Restore point – this gives you a ‘fall back’ position with all your new changes.

This tutorial will help you get the most out of your connection while downloading from rapidshare premium account. As I see a lot of user are not downloading at full speed.

Now there are alot of download accelerator out there but I found that this one works the best.

Download Internet Download Manager 512 latest release:

Install the program and patch/crack it.
Launch the program.

Now we need to tweak it a bit.
Go to DOWNLOADS > OPTIONS

GENERAL:
You can setup anyway you want it. From monitoring your browser to not at all. This is the way i set mine up as it gives me fast access to the download links which I will explain through out this tutorial. So I suggest you copy my settings and see how it works first then you can play around once you get the hang of it.

FILE TYPE:
I set mine to default. Here you can set which file type the download manager will catch when you click download.

SAVE TO:
Set the directory where your file will be saved.

DOWNLOADS:
Now this is important. Make sure you check "Start downloading immediately while display.... " You want this because when you start a link, the manager will check and see if it's broken or not. If it's broken you will get a dialog that shows a broken .html link. If the link is good then you get the file type and size. More on this a little later on...

CONNECTION:
This will determine how fast you will download. Make you sure you select your correct Connection speed. I have mine on Lan/10mb because I'm on a 10mb connection. Set your approriate speed. If you don't know your speed then run a test here at speedtest.net. Next set the "Default Max Conn. number to 16. If you have connection issue with 16 then set it to 8. But so far I have found no problem. 16 will defenitly be your best bet for a fast download speed.

PROXY:
No need to set proxy since we have a premium account already.

SITE LOG IN:
Here you will enter your username and password. Click on NEW then select http , enter rapidshare.com and enter your login info

DIAL UP:
Who the hell is still on Dial Up? I left this tab untouch.

SOUNDS
I don't care too much about sounds. But you can customize your own if you like.

Ok you're ready to start downloading. Lauch IE or Firefox

Now for the downloading part. Highlight all the links then right-click and select Download with IDM

Next you will get a window like this. Remember how I said Make sure you check "Start downloading immediately while display.... ". This now acts as your broken link checker. If the link is dead then you'll get that 512kb of html document. If the link is good then you should get the size of all the files. It should look something like this.

Now Select where you want it to download and check select all or just the file that you need.

Now click ok and your download manager will look like this:

Ok we are ready to download...almost. Click on the "Schedule" icon at the top and go to the "File in queue" tab. Here you can select how many files can be downloaded at the same time. The Ideal setting is 2-3 since 1 connection won't always use all the bandwidth. But you should select 1 first to see how fast it's downloading compare to your regular download speed. Click Apply and close when you're done.

Alright let's start downloading at MAX speed! Click on the Start Queue Icon and BAM! You're downloading as fast as your connection can give you!

I hope this tutorial will help some of you get the best out of your connection. I normally get 250-500k kb/sec while downloading regular. But with IDM I get a stable 1.3MB Kb/sec on a 10mb cable.

Step (1): Insert your DVD into the drive and launch DVD decrypter. DVD Decrypter will detect the DVD and its file contents will now be displayed in the right pane. Now go to File > Browse and select the destination for the ripped VOB files. Keep in mind that the destination must have enough free space to store the contents of the entire DVD.

Step (2): After choosing the destination, click on File>Decrypt to start the decryption process. DVD Decrypter removes the Macrovision Protection by default, and you can set to remove region code as well by going to Tools > IFO > Region > Patch > Region Free. These are necessary for the next step. After the DVD ripping process is completed, close DVD Decrypter.

Step (3): Next Launch DVD2AVI. Go to File > Open. Make sure the correct track number in the Audio menu is selected. You need to find the correct track number-most DVDs have multiple audio tracks in different languages. This can be checked by selecting one track at a time and playing it. Also click on the Audio menu and navigate to “48>44.1KHz”, and select Off. Go to Help > SIMD Technology and select all the optimizations supported by your processor. Now go to File > Save As AVI.

Step (4): Decide on a file name and choose a location with enough free space. You will now be prompted to choose a video compressor. Choose “DivX 6.x.x” from the drop-down menu where you can select the video compressor.

Step (5): Under the Certification Profiles, you can choose an appropriate preset profile such as High Definition, Home Theatre, Portable, Handheld, and Unconstrained. When you choose one of the above profiles, it is virtually guaranteed that the encoded DivX file will be playable on any standalone DivX-certified player. Click on Settings. You can select a bitrate of your choice. A higher bitrate means a larger file size and better quality, while a lower bitrate means a smaller file size and lower image quality.

Step (6): In the Codec tab, you can set the Encoding mode. The default setting is a good trade-off between quality and compression, but if you wish to control the file size, you can state your own mode such as High Performance, Better Quality, etc. Click on OK and then on save to start the video

demultiplexing process. This will take some time depending on the speed of your computer. At the end of this process, you’ll have an AVI file and a WAV file.

Step (7): We now get to the creation of the DivX file-putting together the video (AVI) and audio (WAV) files that were created in the previous step. Launch Virtual Dub. Under File > Open, browse to the folder where the AVI and WAV files are stored. Select the AVI file and click Open.

Step (8): Click on the Audio menu and click “Full Processing Mode”. Click again on the Audio menu and select “WAV Audio”. You will be prompted to open a WAV file. Select the WAV file you created earlier and click Open. Click on the Audio menu and then on Compression. Select “MPEG Layer-3” from the left pane and then select “128 KBit/s, 48,000Hz, Streo” in the right pane. Click OK.

Step (9): Select Interleaving from the Audio menu. Then, select the “mis” radio button and input “500” into the “Interleave audio every” dialog box. Click OK. Again, in the Audio menu, select Volume. Check the box and move the slider to 200 percent. Click OK.

Step (10): From the Video menu, select Direct Stream Copy.

Step (11): Go to File > Save As. Enter a file name of your choice at a location of your choice, and click at a location of your choice, and click OK. This, again, will take some time, but not as much as the video encoding using DVD2AVI. After the process is complete, you’ll have a DivX backup of ypur DVD movie.

Step (12): All that’s left now is to burn the DivX backup up to CD or DVD using your DVD-Writer.

Unless you have more than 10 years of experience, your résumé should be no longer than one page. Use a simple layout.
1. Know what you want.
Compose a clearly stated job objective. State what you want to do, for whom, where, and at what level of responsibility.

1. Don’t talk about people, talk to people.
2. Communicate in a respectful manner. If you are too mad to be respectful, calm down before addressing the problem.
3. Yelling is not acceptable.
4. Do not “air our dirty laundry” in public. If you have a problem with someone, speak with him or her behind closed doors.
5.. Be mindful of who is listening. Close doors or lower your voice (or the volume on your speakerphone) as necessary.
6. Don’t be a “bully” to others, particularly those in jobs subordinate to us. We address problems with the appropriate person in an appropriate manner..
7. Don’t preach desired behavior; rather practice desired behavior. People will form their opinions of us not just in terms of how we treat them, but how they see us treating others. Additionally, remember that our team members are our internal customers. They will treat our external customers the way that we treat them.
8. Do not perpetuate problems through gossip. Just to make sure we’re on the same page, gossip is defined as, “idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others” or “a report (often malicious) about the behavior of other people”. Do not spread rumors. Address issues then move on.
9. Do not speak negatively of others, of the company, or of the company policies to those “outside the team” or to other team members.
10. Always ask these questions when a problem occurs:
• “Why did this problem occur? Why did this person make a mistake?”
• “What could I have done to prevent this problem? Was it a lack of communication on my part?”
• “Did I fully explain my expectations?”
• “How would I want to be treated in this situation?”
Our job is always going to be tough, with unexpected crises popping up, but we do not need to make it tougher by bringing unnecessary drama and stress into the workplace.
